OK. As for a popular athlete owning this place, I guess I expected a little more pizazz and a big "whoa and awe" power! I do understand this hotel was revamped from another ownership, but I believe more can be put into it besides a name of a sports figure. I slept in their junior suite. My room was located at the view of the pool. I found the room to be clean and practical however, let's put it this way, the plumbing was old and the flushing and draining was weak!! I loved their tropical garden with fountains that light up nicely at eve. I must bring this to your attention, the pool and jacuzzi was filthy! If you can imagine, there were things floating on the water in the jacuzzi that look disgusting. I let the concierge know about it and he said he will get it checked out. I wanted to try Shula's steaks, since I heard of great things about it, however, after reading the menu and for a normal blue collar guy, it was expensive to feed. Needless to say, I went to another local less expensive restaurant. Good thing I was on company credit to stay there. Their staff was accommodating and nice.

Not one of my favorite places to stay at if i had a choice. As I dragged my tired and exhausted self into the lobby from a late night fly in, the first thing i saw was 2 sets of people (the kind with their grill on wearing loose white t-shirt and bling blings and bathed in cologne/perfume) sitting and chatting loudly and obnoxiously by the hotel lobby. My first thought was oh hell no. What did i get myself into!!!! It literally took more than 6 minutes of walk to get to my room from the lobby (and I walk fast). The room itself is a confused child, caught between the 80's and the modern world. As shown in some of the pics posted by fellow yelpers, the flooring in the room is pretty nicely done. This is about the only nice thing I can say about this place. The bathroom is really disgusting. Granted this hotel is supposedly a "resort", so I can understand some of the features in the bathroom to accomodate the resort-ish activities, however the bathroom is definitely stuck in the 80's and has the original 80's fixtures. I tried not to touch anything in the room as i was a bit concerned with how sanitary everything was. But the bed was clean and comfy at least. The only other good thing about this place is the bakery right next door. It serves the awesomest coffee that a girl can ask for. Btw, not sure why my room was so expensive even with a corporate rate. In chicago the same rate got me the Ritz. I heard the Don Shula's in Ft Lauderdale is much nicer, why the disparity?!!! Bleh.

Terribly disappointed more like a crappy three star with one star service. We were made to wait 1.5 hrs for "our" room to be cleaned before we could check in. We will NEVER be back.

The bed was comfortable & my room was clean those are the only good things I can really say with conviction. There is no "front entrance" nor is there a valet (despite the podium) or sign to help you make your way from one of the two porticos to the registration desk. I hauled my bags to the front desk only to have to haul them back to my car, drive around with vague directions, and try a few unmarked doors to the out buildings where the rooms are located. Other guests were also confused - I saw several dragging their luggage in circles with confused looks on their faces & a couple asked for directions to the front desk. My room was, well, odd. The floors in the rooms were nice and, as mentioned, the bed was comfortable. The light switch in the alcove also controls the bathroom but mine didn't work consistently, it was one of those motion detectors with a switch. It was replaced fairly quickly on day 2 once it stopped working completely. Several channels on the television did not work. Text reading "No Signal" bounced around the screen in a taunting manner when I wanted to watch ABC or CBS. Other channels were visually clear but without sound while others were snowy but audio was intact. There was evidence someone had been in my room (TV left on) but it was never fixed. The air conditioner was LOUD! So loud I had to routinely adjust the volume on the television and it would kick on and off very often. I tried adjusting the temperature but that didn't help. Electrical outlets were oddly placed - charging my phone and laptop and using the hairdryer was an exercise in flexibility. The bar attached to the hotel was smarmy. I could go on but with so many other very nice spots nearby just skip this place. I had a salad when I arrived around 830P, it was nothing special but not horrible. After looking around while having my salad, there was no way I was eating anything else here. I was here for a conference and the conference room was disappointing. The audio equipment worked well only occasionally. The tables were too narrow and there were metal bars on which I banged my knees often despite my best efforts. The location is fabulous with some nice restaurants on Main Street. The employees are polite but I won't be back to this hotel even if the conference chooses to return - I'll stay down the road a bit. SKIP IT.

It's so sad that Don Shula's name is attached to this hotel. My Dad and I came here because it was the hotel that put us up with the Lions travel package. I wish we would have spent a little more money to stay at a decent hotel near the beach. This place was perfect for my Dad, hell, it's perfect for anyone over the age of 50. It's a cute little community, with all the shops they want to make them happy. Customer service is seriously lacking in this hotel. And so is cleanliness. Some hairy ape went to town on shaving his junk in the shower, and his pubes were on the back wall of it when we checked in. Disgusting.

This review is for GOLF - First time golfing here and i'll be back again. Greens were in great shape and the fairways and rough were well manicured. Plenty of challenging holes to keep your head in the game. If you get a tee time through golfnow.com you can get a great deal, otherwise i don't think i'd pay the asking price for this course. Some of the best 19th hole food you can have being associated with Shulas. Prices are on par with any golf course 19th hole grill. Cart girls are good looking so you might lose a stroke or two trying to show off.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating. I read reviews here before our stay, and was skeptical. Our room must have been in the part of the resort that has already undergone renovation. Because it had none of the issues described by several YELPERS. The first room had a problem with the A/C. But, we were immediately offered to be relocated. The second room was great. Very clean, VERY comfortable beds!!! flat screen tv, mini fridge, nice soaps, WIFI, etc..... The buffet breakfast was very nice, and again the staff couldn't have been better. These are complaints: The first is that it is kind of strange to find! Once there it is convenient to everything and you can walk to most anything that you want. But, even the GPS struggled to actually get us to the entrance. The second is the tennis. We called the front desk to inquire about tennis and were told that there was plenty of availability and the we could just come by and they would arrange the court. Well we did as instructed, and went to the front desk at 5:30p, only to be told that they were closing the tennis courts at 6pm!!! ON SATURDAY!!! They have clay and hard courts with lights. WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF LIT TENNIS COURTS IF YOU CLOSE THEM AT 6PM!!!! Especially on Saturday night, at a sports resort????? I don't know if they were short staffed, or the person working the tennis courts had to leave early, but we were not impressed at all by them not being able to work it out for us to play. Put the lights on and leave a court unlocked, not that complicated to find a solution. It would also be advisable to check the Dolphins schedule before booking! The hotel was full of the visiting team's fans (Philadelphia Eagles) for the game on Sunday. A lot of loud drunken guys. And unless your wife/girlfriend wants to be gawked at, the pool is basically unusable on home game weekends. There wasn't an empty seat around the pool. It was a fifty to one ratio of hungover guys to each woman. The final issue has to do with soundproofing. Either they were shooting a porno in the room next to us, she was overcompensating with poor orgasm faking, or she was just an exuberant SCREAMER!!! Maybe it was just a rented movie and the volume was way up on the TV???? But, needless to say, their was no way to not hear what was coming from the room next door! (pun intended!) But, all in all, we would definitely stay there again, just not on a football weekend! lol

Very nice front desk, beautiful court yard and a decent pool- Dated blue tile. The room was very nice, high end furniture, and nice bedspread. A/C works a charm. Hardwood floors are excellent, and the sink outside the toilet/shower is granite and very modern. However, less can be said about the bathroom tub/toilet. VERY outdated, not clean. And it was the same in all 3 rooms I've stayed in. Bottom Line: If your need to stay in an inexpensive, yet beautiful hotel near north miami, this is the one. The commute to The U of Miami (Coral Gables, FL) was a short distance, but takes about 30-40 mins

Was not easy to locate because the address is Main St. But during certain times, Main St is closed. Therefore, you'll have to find alternate route to the back entrance.

My group stayed here for 3 days for a business conference. The location is fine, although quite a distance from south beach if you interested in that (about a $70 cab ride). There isn't much in this area , mostly chain restaurants and mini malls. A few choices are above average. The restaurant and bar in the hotel is lame with poor sevice, poor selections, and drab interior. It was dead on a Saturday night. The room I had was adequate, but that is it. Little things irritate me in hotels like this. Like the tub stopper doesn't work, or the sink drain won't drain fully. Nothing critical, but I don't know why they don't fix that stuff. People and service were nice and efficient. The front desk offered to bring my laundry to my room, which is not standard. That was nice. They have a really nice health club which is free.

Great hotel, especially for Miami Dolphins fans. We had a few problems like lack of internet our first day, the phone ringing for no reason waking us up, and no maid service one day - but the front desk was very responsive to the issues. The sports bar there was incredible... wonderful food, and they allowed us west coasters to watch the LA Kings game two nights. I highly recommend this hotel!

We stayed here this past weekend in an attempt to make a mini-vacation out of a business 'trip'. The hotel was nice. It was clean, the staff was friendly and accommodating, room service wasn't excessively expensive, and its located within walking distance of restaurants, stores, and even a movie theater. The beds were very soft and hugged your body as you melted down into them. I love that feeling after a busy day. The weather wasn't the best so I don't have any information on the pool situation. Our room was on the first floor next to the fountains just opposite to Shula's 2. We had dinner there our first night in and its a good place, comparable to a Friday's or an Outback. Its the less fancy version of the Shula's Steakhouse so its casual, no reservation needed. Everything we had was great...my salad was fresh and huge... I couldn't finish it. Pricing was great also.. think along the lines of the restaurants I mentioned before. The only problem I had with this hotel is that our keys seemed to stop working quite frequently. We had to have them reprogrammed twice while we were there (we were only there two nights). That was a little bit of a nuisance but luckily our room was about a minutes walk from the front desk. Other then that our stay was really pleasant.

Terribly old beds, worst water pressure in shower I've ever seen, too little lighting in rooms, over priced restaurant. Ran bath, water brown!

This review is also for the golf course! If you like to play really nice courses, don't waste your time or money to play here. Greens were excruciatingly slow. fairways no grass and tee boxes looked as if you were standing in the rough trying to tee up your ball. The back 9 was cart paths only, although we saw no reason for it. What they were trying to protect is beyond me.

Living downtown and close to Coral Gables, I normally would not travel to Miami Lakes for a good steak dinner. In this case, however, I had two gift cards for Shula's totalling $150 that seemed to make it worth the trip. When we pulled up to the Steakhouse, there was a valet station, but the two "kids" working there were busy playing rock, paper, scissors, so we decided to park our own car. In the parking lot, I have never seen so many cats in my life. That to me signals trash on the grounds. As we walked up to the entrace, the valet kids seemed to be walking ahead of us, presumably to open the door, as would normally occur at a nice steakhouse,... but no - they didn't even see us! Finally, with a shock, the valet girl turned around and said "excuse me" and moved out of the way. Luckily, I don't mind opening my own door, but I can imagine people used to country clubs would get a little bent out of shape. Once inside, the bar area was quite pretty. We sat at the bar, and there was an atrociously loud group at a table behind us. It was obviously a corporate get-together, and it seemed the guys had intentionally overserved a female co-worker, who no doubt would regret some of her rantings and ravings the next day... but I digress. Our bartender came over and introduced himself, and told us how "crazy" it had been all night. I found this hard to believe since there were only a handful of people at the bar, plus the business drunks behind us. Anyway, he walked away without asking us if we'd like a drink. When he came back about five minutes later, he introduced himself AGAIN, and asked us what we'd like to drink, mentioning one more time how crazy his night was. The menu at Shula's is grossly overpriced, and I think they need a little bit of a reality check. "Hello, this isn't South Beach. This is Miami Lakes." I have never seen a steak listed MKT price, and I thought that was really annoying. They have a selection of about eight steak cuts and sizes, and I really didn't feel like asking the ADHD bartender to break down the prices for me. So we ordered..., the BBQ shrimp was delicious. The filet steak I had was flavorless, but my dining companion's NY Strip was pretty good. After we finished eating, ADHD came back and asked us if we'd like dessert. When we declined, he said "What are you guys, on the Atkins diet or something?" At that point, I was ready to leave. After getting our check, we waited over 10 minutes before the bartender finally turned away from watching football to ask us if we were "all set." Yes, indeed. I am all set to never, ever set foot in this restaurant again.

Great Sunday brunch. But for a regular evening you can never go wrong with their New York Strip.

We stayed here for 6 nights in a pool-side room with a 21 month old toddler. This review is for the hotel only. Definitely a kid friendly place, it was great being on the ground level next to the pool and jacuzzi and my kid could look out the glass back door and see the pool every morning, we had easy access which is great with kids and late night dips. We could also put him down and take a late night jacuzzi dip and be close enough to hear him should he wake up. The hotel staff was friendly and very helpful. I booked on Hotels.com for most of the trip but then extended my stay with the hotel directly, who gave us a great deal, and they were helpful with the transition and letting us stay in the same room. The manager Jasmine was very friendly and helpful. the rooms are a decent size and we had a nice big desk to work on. No refrigerator unless you upgrade to a higher room or pay $10/day, which is funny because the pool-side rooms are more expensive than two other room types. Like the other reviewers mentioned, the cleanliness is lacking here and it's a shame because they just don't get that much business, so maybe they can't afford to hire better management who could ensure a tidy operation. When we arrived in our room the AC unit was making a terrible high pitched sound, and when you leaned on it, it went away. Also, the toilet handle was broken in half. We called to complain and they fixed both issues right away. The jacuzzi tub probably only gets cleaned once in a while, in the day light you can see a thick layer of scum on the tub wall, like when a really dirty person takes a bath and then doesn't rinse the tub afterwards. The patio floor is full of cigarette butts and debris, and our back patio area had butts and chewing gum right by the door. Some guest decided to leave their used towels by our door each day and they would not get picked up until the next morning. If you're a stickler for cleanliness, don't stay here. If you want a decent hotel experience and need to stay in Miami Lakes, it's not bad for the price. We stayed here because we have family close by, otherwise we would have gone to Miami Beach for sure.

There seems to be some scattered reviews, some for the Steakhouse, some for the Golf, some for the actual Hotel. Shula's Hotel has Shula's 2 restaurant in it, which is a mini version of Shula's Steakhouse, which is at the Golf Club. I am staying at the hotel ten days and have experienced Shula's 2 and the fitness center. I booked three nights initially, because if you stay two nights you get the third night free. I had requested and paid for the Patrician Suite, but received a call that they were under construction and I was offered an upgrade to the Signature Level which is a private access floor with complimentary breakfast weekdays on the floor (very good) and a pass for a continental breakfast at Shula's 2 on the weekends (very bad). My first room was so dark, even with all the lights on and overlooked half an old palm tree and the parking lot. I wrote an email to the sales department and told them I'd like to extend my stay but wanted a different room. I moved my belongings to a new room (identical) but that has a balcony that overlooks the pond/fountain area next to the pool and jacuzzi. The light is much better here. Rooms: On the Signature Level, the rooms are great. The colors are all dark brown and the fixtures resemble an old law library. Flat screen tvs with 40 "dude" channels if you get my drift, and a large desk. The floor is pseudo-hardwood and very clean and new. The bathtubs and shower fixture are old, but the bathroom area outside toilet/shower room has marble counter-top and good fixtures. There is a clean but old-ish bathrobe. Aveda shampoo, conditioner, body wash and soap bars are nice. The complimentary breakfast in room 3218 on the signature level is really great: hard boiled eggs, cereal, croissants, yogurt parfait, fruit, meats, cheeses, and fresh coffee and juices. Complimentary access to the fitness club is a plus, but I got there and it was swarming with grade-school basketball camp. It felt very YMCA-ish. The cardio floor is packed with often malfunctioning equipment and you have to walk on the balance beam that hides the power lines to get to a free treadmill. Both restrooms in the women's locker room were out of order. The weight room was crowded with equipment in places that it didn't really make sense. I didn't see a good stretch area. I didn't play golf and I didn't go to the Shula's Steakhouse. I didn't use the pool. The wifi is annoying only because you have to log on every time your computer refreshes. "I accept." Enter first name. Enter last name. Validating....... and I wouldn't call it lightning fast. I tried several times to download one song on my iPad and it kept refreshing and goobering up. Overall the rates are pretty good for what you get if you're able to swing some upgrades. There were some typical annoyances like a smoke detector that needed a new battery. A group of rowdies camped out outside my door at 5am on Saturday morning locked out of their room. Only one elevator to the third floor signature room which if you're in a room like 3229 is a really long walk but if you're in 3204 it isn't so bad. Although the floors are hardwood, that means that sound carries under the adjoining door. Parking is ok here. Today is game day so I'm sure it will be fun. I used kayak.com to book a hotel in Miami and this was the only one in my pricerange that offered a 4-star property. It is not a 4-star property, but it is much better amenity-wise than spending the same amount for a 2-star property on Miami beach.

Everything about this hotel is sketchy. We were charged full price for a banquet however we never received the food as contracted. This is after we were told we wouldn't be charged. Guests had to eat with fingers as only 30 sets of cutlery were provided for a 200 person banquet. No staff were around to serve food so guests had to go to kitchen, get food bowls and serve into the serving trays for other guests. Food ran out after 20 people and was contracted for 200 people. Banquet started 2 hrs late so some guests left and ate elsewhere. Staff were speaking in Spanish and abusing guests however they didnt realize that the guests spoke Spanish and could understand what they were saying.

I stayed at Shulas and really enjoyed it. I got the 3rd night free as we stayed for three days. That made each night 73$ per night. Super deal. Also when you get stay at the hotel you get to use they're gym across the street and they have an AVEDA spa across the street. In all I really enjoyed my stay here and look forward to coming back to shulas again.

THIS REVIEW IS OF MY STAY AT THE HOTEL. The area is great! The staff at front desk are seemingly good too and the rooms are pretty decent and free parking is great!! I was really looking forward to the spa but could never take advantage of it because the never cleaned it it was nasty. Twice someone in house keeping opened my room when I was not there and left it ajar and no one took responsibility for it thank goodness nothing came up missing. The restaurant INSIDE the hotel was fair a bit over priced for the fare and the service definitely was lacking but once I brought it to the managers attention the staff and manger did all they could to remedy the opportunity so kudos for that. All in All I would not ever want to pay to stay here full market price its not worth it but at a significant discount its worth considering. For the price I have experienced much better.

LOVE the hardwood floors and the space is clean!!! It really has a comforting feeling here, and the staff really reached out to make me feel comfortable. Now, I do have a few issues. One of which is the parking. Although it is free, the design of the building might leave one confused while searching for a room. It can be frustrating trying to locate a room with luggage in hand. The second issue is the hot water, and I love hot water, but this water is beyond hot. It's piping hot and might actually cause someone to be injured. Because of the lush green and plant life surrounding the hotel, the fitness center across the street, along with the many varied shops around Main street, I consider this place a winner.

I loved the football pics by the lobby the Goal post at the driveway is a nice touch. I have not been in a long time but wanted to review this place as I had a great business stay. The beds are super nice I was sleep well before I thought I would be very nice and accommodating rooms. My stay was quiet and comfortable. The Don Shula Bar inside was nice they were raffling off Dolphin tickets that if I won I;d have to stay the weekend. I had a 12 oz Rib Eye The steak was incredible char that was tender melt in your mouth steak. I'd like to come back as it was a while ago and mostly would need to be reminded of what else they serve. But I had a great stay at the Hotel and Bar.

While the hotel is in a very nice location. I completed hated this hotel and here's why: 1) the shower is hard to turn on, it's old and the shower would not get hot. People were in the hallway all night and would yell down the hallway between 11am - 4am. during the work week. Bottom line, you can find a nicer hotel for $209/night for your money!

The hotel was a little outdated, but I have to say that the following made up for it: The staff, they were wonderful even in the restaurant. The cleanliness- there is no carpet, a bonus, and the hotel property and rooms were clean. Almost every room has a balcony and mine had a nice view of the pool. The downside is the walls are paper thin and the hotel is outdated. I could also never get the temperature right. There was only one small lamp and one small desk lamp and no overhead lighting so when the blinds were shut it was pretty dark, plus due to limited outlets I had to unplug the only true lamp to plug in my phone. The location is convenient and it is a relatively safe area. There are lots of restaurants and shopping located within walking distance along with a FedEx Office, grocery store and Walgreen across the street. The price was reasonable between $135-189 a night. I would stay there again if I wanted a low cost and conveniently located option in Miami between Ft. Lauder dale and Miami locations.

This was my third time staying at this hotel in Miami. I'm forced to stay here due to company events. Each time it proves to be even more disappointing than previous stays. I'm scheduled to attend another event in Miami in June of this year but have notified my company that I will pay for my own hotel elsewhere...yes, it's that bad. Poor customer service from the staff, dirty rooms, broken blinds, cold wood floors, and the fitness center is detached and across the street from the hotel.

Technically this is 4 1/2 stars. The room is great, very large and roomy. The bathroom was the same. The hallway was noisy both in pm and am. We only stayed a night but roamed the gardens. It was nice, fountains and an occasional statue. Fountains could use an update. The location was nice, restaurants and some shopping within walking distance. And the area felt safe. We were going to a dolphins game and it was really close and easy to get to the stadium. The room was nice and updated. The only thing that sucked was the parking. It was a pain to check in with luggage but it wasn't horrible.

  • Aadrian D.

The rooms were extremely dusty, with stained curtains/headboard, COCKROCHES, and hair in the corners of the bathroom floor. When you first get the hotel things are nice at first glance, then after being in the room you suddenly realizes things are not as nice as they seem. The floors in the room were great, but that's about were the compliments stop. There's just a lot of little things about this hotel that is very either just plain out unsanitary, or just not nicest thing to see. Not to mention they nickel and dime you for everything you do. The location to the highway is great though, if that counts for anything....

This is a review of the restaurant at Shula's Hotel and Golf Club in Miami Lakes, FL--not the restaurant in the Hotel on Main St (Main St--heh--can you tell Miami Lakes is a planned community?) but the restaurant at the Golf Club, the "original Shula steakhouse." Basically, I couldn't tell who was more bougie--the group of people I was with for liking this place, or me for thinking it was terrible. In other words, which is more bougie: being impressed by the famous name, the wood-paneled walls, the "four star" accolades...or turning up one's nose at the sub-par service (one of us got a TRAY of drinks spilled on her), the sub-par food (steak had absolutely no flavor and the "filet mignon" was hardly tender), or the bizarre atmosphere (imagine the room of that Dolphins-obsessed weirdo in Ace Ventura). The best part was the camaraderie I felt with the wait staff--probably having to do with the fact that we were the only young folk and native Miamians--but it's probably not "four star" habit to casually address your customers by first name...

We booked through Hotels.com for two night stay on our trip to see the Miami Dolphins. Clean enough, but definitely a more tired location. Front desk was scattered and confused, and the "renovated" decor seems more confused with a splash of pink than anything else. Received a coupon for Shula's Steakhouse, which was conveniently closed on Sunday and Monday, the two evenings we were here. Spa is also closed on Monday. The place is ok at best.
